Strobist Tutorial (Friday)
Date: Friday, 7th Oct 2011
Time: 4:00PM – 6:00PM
Location: Lecture Theatre M10, Chemical Sciences Building
Light light light! What is Photography without light? Well, a black screen or piece of paper. Thinking of adding a little more to conventional shooting with natural light? Add a strobe or two. In fact, who needs the sun? Pssh. Create your own light! Come down this Friday and learn to flash! (PG style of course).
Not interested yet? The club has just acquired a new lightstand, remote trigger and for all you Nikon users, an SB900 flash to use. At least come and put these new toys to use along with the studio strobes that the club already owns!
There will be a practical portion, so please bring your cameras, flashes, bazookas and anything else you think necessary.
*There will also be omnomnom PIZZA tonight brought to you by our lovely sponsor Pizza Man.
Open to UNSW PhotoClub members only. Please remember to bring your membership cards for identification!

Band Promo Shoot (Saturday)
Date: Saturday, 8th October 2011
Time: 9:00am – 4:00pm
Location: UNSW Various Locations
This is a Photoclub first! We are doing a promotional shoot for 2 bands this weekend. Awesome photo opportunity for anyone looking to expand their portfolio. In the past we’ve had ‘Model Workshops’ well this time round we’re doing our first ever ‘Band Promo Workshop’. Like the Model Workshops, the Band Promo will also be allocated on a First-come-First-serve basis.
Location: UNSW (Kensington Campus)
——————————————
Session 1: 9:00AM – 11:30PM
Session 2: 12:00AM – 2:30PM
What is the Band Promo Workshop about?
In short, our workshops allow you to work in teams and experience photoshoots outdoors as well as indoors. Each person in the team will take turns in controlling light with reflector, being the creative director (guiding poses), and photographer. Of course we won’t throw you in cold, our Execs will guide you through, giving demonstrations, providing tips and feedback during the session. You don’t need to have a SLR, the club is happy to lend you our Nikon D3000s for the session (provide your own SD card). Please request SLR prior to session if you need one. This is definitely a good experience if you want to improve your skills in portraiture and get an insight into fashion photography and photos from the day could contribute to your portfolio. Your photos may even be used on the bands’ website and for other promotional needs.
This is NOT a free Event!
There are costs to be shared in order to achieve the best results and have already been heavily subsidised by the club and ARC. You are paying for the various props used for styling the shoot.
- $10 ARC PhotoClub Members
- $12 Non-ARC PhotoClub Members
- $20 Non-UNSW Students
Each session will generally run as follows:
- 4 Photographers per session
- Duration of 2.5 hours
- First 10 minutes – shooting as a group
- Rest of the session: Individual photography time with band at each location (time varies depending on schedule during the day)
- During session – feedback from each other and Execs
Some simple Terms & Conditions
- You will be required to arrive 15 minutes prior to the session time in order to meet the band and hear the brief. If you do not arrive on time we will begin without you.
- You are required to have some idea of what the bands’ music sounds like as well as learn the names of the band members before the shoot. Find their music and details here: www.facebook.com/inmeasures ; www.facebook.com/thissanctuaryband
- On the day of the shoot you will be asked to sign a release form.
- NO SNIPING ALLOWED– Unless during group shooting. Sniping meaning, taking photos from afar or nearby while photographers are having individual time with the model. If sniping occurs, members will be given a first warning, subsequent infringements will result in removal from the photoshoot and possibly barred from attending future model photoshoots.Group shooting isn’t the main objective of the workshop! While you wait for your turn, you are expected to decide on how to pose your model, where to go or getting feedback from Execs etc.
