Week 8: Lighting and Strobes
Date: Friday 19th September 2014
Time: 4pm-5:45pm
Location: Chemical Science, M11
Light is an integral part of photography. It is what allows us to take photographs, and over the decades, great artists have discovered that there are more uses to light than just lighting up a subject or scenery.
In this tutorial, we will be teaching you the fundamentals of light as a compositional tool for photography. We will also be showing you how light ultimately affects how your photographs look and feel.
Also, there will be a hands-on, practical demonstration during this tutorial that will allow you to try out a number of lighting tools like reflectors, strobes and flashes. So, don’t forget to bring your camera or your smartphone!
If you don’t have a camera but would like to try using one, we have a couple of cameras that you can use. This, however, requires you to provide your own SD card if you wish to take your photos home.

Week 8: Photoclub goes to the Garden and Festival
Date: Sunday 21st September 2014
Time: 11am-3pm
Location: Chinese Garden of Friendship
Have you ever wanted to escape to a place to relax, breathe deeply and feel the sun on your face? The Chinese Garden of Friendship is the perfect place for this. The walled Chinese Garden respectfully recreates the philosophy and harmony of a traditional Chinese garden with waterfalls, lakes, exotic plants, pavilions and hidden pathways.
This Sunday, Ritmo Brazilian Day will have plenty of surprises such as live music, dance and performances, as well as Brazilian culture, food and drinks.
Join UNSW PhotoClub this Sunday, as we immerse ourselves in the Chinese and Brazilian Culture. Relax in the gardens, and then celebrate at the festival.
The Chinese Garden does have a $3 entry fee for students ($6 for adults), and the festival is free to attend. Meet at 11am outside the Chinese Garden. As this event runs through lunch time, please feel free to bring your own lunch. We will stop by a fast food place to get some food between events or you can buy some Brazilian food at the festival.
